Green Waste Composting in Channel Islands

PAG Consultancy have worked as technical consultants, for a Channel Islands Government Department, with respect to the treatment and production of compost from source segregated organic waste e.g. green waste, and onward recycling to agricultural land for the benefit of soil quality since 2018.

Challenge

This appointment brings a number of challenges, not least the limited agricultural landbank available on an island, the growing of a limited range of agricultural crops (mainly vegetables or grass) and the need to accommodate on-farm cattle manures.  Ultimately, technical understanding of the processes and legislation controlling organic waste treatment and handling, along with a practical understanding of agricultural requirements and soil science expertise has enabled PAG Consultancy to deliver an on-going service to our client and associated agricultural stakeholders.

Value

Our client has managed to develop, and maintain, an agricultural outlet for their waste derived products, which otherwise would require waste recovery or export, while agricultural stakeholders receive expertise and support in the replacement of inorganic fertilisers with organic replacements.  PAG Consultancy prides itself on continuing to deliver technical based consultancy to the benefit of all stakeholders
